Recently BIS has established 8 central, 4 regional and 3 branch laboratories to accomplish their purpose of testing samples to verify whether they are suitable to be sold in the market or not. Different types of BIS Certification Schemes

  1. ECO Mark Scheme: This scheme is basically for the products that are environment-friendly and conform to the basic standards under the Indian standards.
  2. Foreign Manufacturer’s Certification Scheme: It was launched in the year 2000 for the overseas applicants and foreign manufacturers.
  3. Schemes for Domestic Manufacturers:
  • Normal Procedure: in this procedure, the applicant applies for the BIS certificate and BIS officers come for preliminary factory evaluation and the license is issued to the person within 4 to 6 months of applicant’s recording.
  • Simplified Procedure: it has been introduced to provide a pace to the procedure of granting the license to an applicant. In the simplified procedure, applicants can expect to get their certificate within the 30 days of submission of an application for BIS certificate.
