FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) was set up to access the quality standards of business that handles food products. FSSAI authority was established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the primary aim of this authority is dealing with the issuing of food licenses in India. This license is mandatory for all the food business operators such as traders, manufacturers, food store owners. The main aim of the FSSAI License is to ensure that all the food products sold or packed by FBOs strictly follow all the rules & regulations and standards set by the FSSAI. In this article, we discuss the process of the FSSAI License Online.

The FSSAI Registration totally depends on the volume of the business, premises, the installed capacity, turnover of the business, business location and there are three different types of FSSAI License in India, and you can check the same from below:

1. FSSAI Central License: The Central License is only for large food businesses that operate in different states.
2. FSSAI State License: The State License is for medium food business which operates within a particular state
3. Basic FSSAI Registration: This is the basic registration, and this license is for only petty food business, and the turnover of such business should not exceed Rs. 12 lakhs per annum.

Every food business owner in India has to apply for FSSAI license online, after FSSAI registration certificate the Food business is given a 14 digit license number which must be showcased in the food business premise.

The 14-digits FSSAI license number has been essentially divided into 5 parts and each part helps in understanding the details. Below-mentioned are the five different parts of the FSSAI license number and its details:-

• Part 1 - First digit indicates the status of whether the food business is registered or not.
• Part 2 - The second and the third digit indicates the state code which means the state where the business is registered.
• Part 3 - The fourth and fifth number will talk about the year in which the food business is registered.
• Part 4 - The sixth, seventh and eight numbers will help you to understand the quantity of enrolling master.
• Part 5 - Ninth to Fourteen is the Makers license number.

• Enter 14 Digit FSSAI License Number
  After obtaining FSSAI License Online, the 14 digit license is given to the food business owner, the food business owner have to enter the 14 digit license number in the search bar in the official FSSAI portal.
• Click on Check Validity and get information
  Once the food business owner enter the 14 digit license number, then click on “Check Validity” option and basic information related to food business will be demonstrated on the screen.
• Login with Your Username and Password
  For comprehensive information regarding FSSAI license online status enter your password and username and login on the online portal.
• Get the Details about FSSAI License Number

Once you log in, you will receive the status and detailed information about your FSSAI license online.

• The 14-digit FSSAI license number of the Food Business must be printed on the food products that are sold.
• The colour and text style shading of the FSSAI logo should be contrasted adequate to the background colour of the packaging of food product, so the license and logo number are properly visible.
• The address and name with the FSSAI license number should be presented before the authorities importing the food product.
• The proportion of the digits, alphabets and letters should be measured as per the standards set by FSSAI.
• Presentation of the FSSAI logo and the license number on the food products define that the FBO has an authentic FSSAI license under the Food Safety and Standard Act.
